US Military Announces New Criteria for New Recruits

The US Army has made a significant policy change, announcing that transgender individuals will no longer be allowed to enlist in the military. This decision, which takes effect immediately, also halts all medical procedures related to gender transition for current service members.

In a statement, the US Army explained that all new enlistments for individuals with a history of gender dysphoria are paused, and all medical procedures associated with gender transition are also on hold. Despite this change, the Army emphasized that individuals with gender dysphoria who have volunteered to serve will be treated with dignity and respect.

This policy shift reverses the previous administration’s stance, which allowed transgender individuals to serve openly in the military. The new policy also prohibits the use of military resources for gender-affirming surgeries and treatments.

It’s worth noting that this change may impact the estimated 15,000 transgender individuals currently serving in the military. Advocacy groups are likely to challenge this policy, arguing that it discriminates against transgender individuals and harms military recruitment efforts.
