FG Bans 60000 Litre Fuel Tankers from Nigerian Roads

Nigeria Bans 60,000-Litre Fuel Tankers to Reduce Road Accidents

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has announced a ban on 60,000-litre fuel tankers from operating on Nigerian roads, starting March 1, 2025. This decision was made in response to the increasing number of road accidents involving heavy-duty petroleum tankers, which have resulted in infernos and fatalities.

According to Ogbugo Ukoha, NMDPRA Executive Director, the ban was agreed upon by key stakeholders, including the Department of State Services, Federal Fire Service, and Federal Road Safety Corps. From March 1, any truck with an axle load of more than 60,000 litres of hydrocarbon will not be allowed to load at any depot.

This move aims to mitigate truck-in-transit incidents and ensure safe transportation of petroleum products across the country. With a consensus built among stakeholders, the NMDPRA is committed to working together to reduce road accidents and fatalities.
