Singer Portable Gets Bail Term

Nigerian street artist Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been granted bail by the Isabo Magistrate Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State. He was arraigned on a five-count charge, including conspiracy, assault, and possession of weapons, as well as conduct likely to cause harm.

Portable pleaded not guilty to the allegations, and his attorney, Oluwatoyin Ayodele, requested bail, stating that the artist had shown remorse and learned from the situation. Magistrate O L Oke granted Portable bail in the sum of N2 million with one surety in like sum and postponed the trial until March 5.

The charges stem from an incident involving three town planning officials who were reportedly attacked while carrying out their lawful duties at Odogwu Bar, a property owned by Portable. The singer had been declared wanted by the police earlier this week and surrendered at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba on Wednesday.

This development comes after Portable expressed distress over the government’s closure of his unfinished building and hotel due to unauthorized development, which led to the detention of some of his patrons and employees. The artist had made a heartfelt appeal to President Tinubu, requesting intervention with Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun.
