Obasa Resumes Speakership Position in Lagos Assembly Power Tussle

Mudashiru Obasa, the former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, made a bold move on February 27, declaring his return to office as Speaker. This announcement came after his first appearance at the Assembly since his impeachment on January 13.

Obasa’s statement was unequivocal: “I’ve resumed, and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly.” His confidence was matched by the presence of Police and State Security Service operatives, who escorted him to the Assembly complex.

This development follows Obasa’s impeachment by a majority of Lagos State lawmakers, after which Mojisola Lasbat Meranda took the reins as the first female Speaker of the Lagos Assembly.
