Meet Adedapo Idowu, a 94-year-old man who’s defying age stereotypes by registering for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). His goal? To study Political Science at the University of Ibadan, fulfilling a long-held aspiration. Idowu successfully registered at the JAMB Professional Test Center in Ibadan, Oyo State, and his story has been featured in the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s latest bulletin.

Despite initial fears about pursuing higher education at his age, Idowu’s seamless registration experience put him at ease. He praised the registration staff for their warm reception, saying, “I can now attain my dream at an advanced age.” Idowu also offered words of wisdom to fellow candidates, advising them to embrace professionalism and contentment in their academic journey.

Idowu’s story has sparked a lively debate on social media, with many Nigerians sharing their thoughts on his decision. As of last week, over 700,000 candidates, including 11,000 underage applicants, had registered for the 2025 UTME, which opened on January 31 ¹.
