Elon Musk Announces Launch of Grok 3, the “Smartest AI on Earth”

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has announced that his artificial intelligence startup, xAI, will unveil its latest chatbot, Grok 3, on Monday, February 17. Musk has touted Grok 3 as the “smartest AI on Earth,” setting the stage for a major breakthrough in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

According to Musk, Grok 3 was trained on synthetic data and is designed to refine its reasoning capabilities by reflecting on past errors and reviewing data for logical consistency. The xAI team will be putting the final touches on the product over the weekend, with a demonstration scheduled for 8:00 pm Pacific Time (0400 GMT) on Monday.

Musk’s foray into the AI sector is part of a broader push to establish a stronger foothold in the industry. xAI is aiming to carve out a niche in a market dominated by established players like OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The competition has intensified in recent weeks, with Chinese startup DeepSeek launching a low-cost, high-quality chatbot that quickly surpassed ChatGPT in downloads on Apple’s App Store.

Despite warnings about the potential risks of AI to humanity, Musk has aggressively pursued investment in the sector. xAI secured $6 billion in funding from investors in December, following an initial $6 billion fundraising round in May. This makes xAI one of the world’s most valuable startups, although it remains smaller than OpenAI.

Musk founded xAI in July 2023, shortly after signing an open letter urging a pause in the development of advanced AI models. Meanwhile, OpenAI rejected a Musk-led offer to acquire the company for $97.4 billion, according to its board chairman.
